4:5 Print Sizes in Pixels

4:5 is the ratio of the 8×10 frame, one of the most common ready-made frames in US stores, and of its 16×20 sibling. At 300 DPI an 8×10 is 2,400 × 3,000 pixels and a 16×20 is 4,800 × 6,000.

Pixels = inches × DPI, rounded to the nearest whole pixel. 300 DPI is the print-shop standard for prints seen up close; 200 is fine on a wall; 150 is the floor. Etsy itself sets no DPI rule.

What sellers use this ratio for

  • Prints meant for an 8×10 frame, which is why 4:5 is in most Etsy wall art bundles.
  • Nursery and quote prints sold as 8×10 with a 16×20 upsize.
  • Instagram-style 4:5 artwork reused as a printable without recropping.

Frequently asked questions

What pixel size is an 8×10 at 300 DPI?

2,400 × 3,000 pixels. For 16×20 the same file would print at 150 DPI, so a 16×20 master needs 4,800 × 6,000 pixels.

Is 8×10 the same ratio as 16×20?

Yes, both are 4:5, as is 4×5. One 4:5 file covers all three; only the DPI changes with the size.

Will a 4:5 file fit an A4 sheet?

Not without a crop. A4 is 1:1.414, noticeably taller than 4:5, so printing a 4:5 file on A4 either leaves a margin or trims the sides. For A sizes use an ISO A file.

Need 300 DPI files for every ratio?

Wall Art Studio upscales one artwork and exports print-ready files in 2:3, 3:4, 4:5, 11×14, square and A sizes, ready to upload to Etsy.
