DPI is pixels divided by inches. The thresholds are print-shop conventions; Etsy itself has no DPI rule.
Most print shops and buyers expect 300 DPI for sharp prints held in the hand. Around 200 DPI usually still looks good on a wall; below 150 prints start to look soft.
Print-shop convention, not an Etsy rule
One 2:3 file covers 4×6 up to 24×36; an 8×10 needs a 4:5 file and A4 needs ISO A. Selling several sizes means one file per ratio, or a crop.

A digital listing takes up to 5 files of 20 MB each. A 300 DPI file at 24×36 is large, so export each ratio as its own JPG rather than one big ZIP.
Etsy Help, selling digital items
Etsy has no DPI rule, but 300 DPI is the standard most print shops and buyers expect for sharp prints viewed up close. Around 200 DPI usually still looks good at normal viewing distance. Below 150 DPI, prints start to look soft, especially at small sizes held in the hand.
At 300 DPI, a 24×36 inch print needs 7,200 × 10,800 pixels. The same 2:3 file also covers 4×6, 8×12, 12×18, 16×24 and 20×30 at 300 DPI or more. The calculator shows the pixels needed for every standard size, so you can export the right file once.
Each print ratio has a fixed shape. If your image is a different shape, the print has to trim the edges to fill the paper. The crop percentage is how much of your image would be cut away. A 0% crop means the image already has that ratio and prints without losing anything.
No. When you pick a file, your browser opens it locally only to read its width and height. The image is not uploaded, stored, or shared, and the calculator works offline once the page has loaded. You can also just type the pixel size if you already know it.
Wall Art Studio upscales one artwork and exports print-ready files in 2:3, 3:4, 4:5, 11×14, square and A sizes, ready to upload to Etsy.
Optimsy finds the phrases buyers actually use in Etsy search and shows how competitive each one is. SEO Expert turns that data into a 140-character title, 13 tags and a description. A seller who connects their shop can send the suggested title and tags back to the live Etsy listing, choosing with data instead of guesswork.
A seller without a shop starts with discovery: Goldmine and Blue Ocean show product ideas buyers search for but rarely find. Next, Wall Art Studio, Clip Art Studio or Photo Studio prepares the product and its images. Finally, SEO Expert writes the title and tags and the listing is sent to Etsy. Signing up is free.
