How the free shipping price is calculated
Etsy takes its percentage fees on the item price plus the shipping you charge, and its fixed fees per listing or per order. So when shipping moves into the price, the fees stay the same, and the price that keeps your profit is today's price plus today's shipping.
- Today: you keep price + shipping − your costs − Etsy's fees
- Free shipping: new price = price + shipping, and shipping becomes 0, so the fee base doesn't change
- The transaction fee and Offsite Ads are charged on price + shipping, and payment processing on that plus tax, so none of them change
- The $0.20 listing fee and the fixed processing fee are charged per listing and per order, not on shipping
- Your price ending is applied by rounding up, so the profit never drops below today's
Example: a $30.00 item with $6.00 shipping from a US shop. With free shipping the price becomes $36.00 and the sale still leaves $14.13; at $36.99 it leaves $15.03. One item now reaches the $35 US guarantee. Switching shipping off without raising the price would cost $5.43 on every order.
Etsy's $35 free shipping guarantee
A free shipping guarantee makes standard shipping free for US buyers on qualifying orders from your shop. These are the conditions in Etsy's own help article and terms.

What is Etsy's free shipping guarantee?
It's a shop setting that gives US buyers free standard shipping on any single item of $35 USD or more, or on an order from your shop totaling $35 or more. It applies whatever your shop currency is, and to sellers in and outside the US alike, as long as the order ships to the US.
Does shipping count toward the $35 minimum?
No. Etsy's Free Shipping Terms say taxes, shipping and other charges from the seller don't count toward the $35 USD minimum, while the amount after coupons and discounts does. That's why building shipping into the item price can lift an item over $35 on its own, while a $30 item with $6 shipping stays below.
What happens to orders under $35 if I turn on the guarantee?
They keep the shipping price you set. The guarantee only makes shipping free on US orders that reach $35. If you want free shipping on cheaper items too, or for buyers outside the US, Etsy says you can use free shipping profiles, and then you build the shipping cost into those prices yourself.
Does free shipping help my Etsy search ranking?
Etsy states one rule: US listings with domestic shipping prices lower than $6 are prioritized in search, and free shipping meets it. Buyers can also filter search results by free shipping. Etsy doesn't publish any other ranking effect, so the calculator only tells US sellers whether their current shipping price is above that line.
Should I end my price in .99?
That's your call, and the calculator shows what each choice earns. It always rounds up to the ending you pick, so profit never falls below today's. It also shows the next ending down: in our example, $35.99 instead of $36.99 leaves less than one cent below today's profit, because the exact price is $36.
What about international shipping?
Etsy says you can lower your international shipping price by the domestic amount you moved into the item price, so buyers abroad pay the same total as before.
