The fee on this order

Etsy takes 15% or 12% of the item price, shipping and gift wrap, and never more than $100 on one order. The calculator applies the cap for you. For one sale taken apart fee by fee, read what one Etsy sale costs you.

Profit with and without the ad

The same order is worked out twice with Etsy's other fees, so you see exactly what the ad costs you. Every fee on its own line, for any country, is in the Profit Calculator and the table of Etsy fees by country.

Stay in or opt out

Shops that have never reached $10,000 in a 365-day period can opt out; shops above it can't. Our Offsite Ads fees guide explains when switching it off makes sense.

How the Etsy Offsite Ads fee is calculated

Etsy charges the Offsite Ads fee only on orders it attributes to an ad, as a percentage of the order total. The rate depends on your shop's sales, and the fee on one order never goes above $100.

  1. Order total = item price + shipping you charge + gift wrap
  2. Fee = order total × 15% (shop never reached $10,000 in 365 days) or 12% (reached it once)
  3. If the fee is above $100, it stays at $100
  4. Profit from an ad order = profit without the ad − the fee (and any VAT Etsy adds to it)
  5. Break-even margin = the fee as a share of the order total: below it, an ad order loses money

Example: a $30.00 item with $5.00 shipping from a US shop that has never reached $10,000. The ad fee is 15% of $35.00, so $5.25. Without the ad the order leaves $14.23 (40.64%); if it came from an Offsite Ad, it leaves $8.98 (25.64%).

Frequently asked questions

How much is the Etsy Offsite Ads fee?

It's 15% of the order total if your shop has never made $10,000 in sales in any 365-day period, and 12% once it has. The order total is the item price plus what you charge for shipping and gift wrap. The fee on a single order never goes above $100, however large the order is.

Is the Offsite Ads fee charged on shipping?

Yes. Etsy's Fees & Payments Policy charges it on the price you display plus what you charge for shipping and gift wrapping. US sellers don't pay it on sales tax, while sellers elsewhere pay it on any tax included in their prices. Folding shipping into the item price doesn't lower the fee.

Can I opt out of Etsy Offsite Ads?

Only if your shop has never made $10,000 or more in any consecutive 365-day period. Go to Shop Manager, then Settings, then Offsite Ads, and choose to opt out. Once your shop reaches $10,000, taking part is required for the lifetime of the shop, even if sales fall later, but the rate drops to 12%.

When does an order count as an Offsite Ads sale?

When a buyer clicks an Offsite Ad for one of your listings and then buys from your shop within 30 days. Every order in that window can be charged, so one click can lead to several fees. If the buyer's last click before buying was an Etsy Ad, only the Etsy Ads fee applies.

How does the $100 cap work?

The Offsite Ads fee on any one order never goes above $100. At 15%, the cap starts to matter on orders of about $666.67 and more; at 12%, on orders of about $833.33 and more. If your payment account isn't in dollars, the calculator converts the cap with the exchange rate you enter.

Should I stay in Offsite Ads?

Compare your margin with the fee. If an order still leaves a profit after 15% comes off, staying in usually pays, because you're charged only when an ad leads to a sale. If your margin before the ad is below the fee rate, every ad order loses money: raise the price, or opt out while you're under $10,000.

Does Etsy add VAT to the Offsite Ads fee?

In some countries, yes. Etsy adds VAT to its seller fees, Offsite Ads included, when your account has no VAT ID. Sellers in Türkiye pay 20% on top and sellers in Germany 19%, so a 15% ad fee really costs 18% or 17.85% of the order. Turn on 'VAT on Etsy fees' to include it.
