Outside the United States, Etsy Payments does not use routing numbers, ACH or instant bank login. Sellers in Germany and Spain enter an IBAN and a SWIFT BIC, sellers in Mexico enter an 18-digit CLABE, and sellers in Argentina, Chile and Peru connect a Payoneer account instead of a bank account. Your bank is verified with a small test deposit after your first sale, and you have 60 days to finish that step before Etsy suspends the shop.

Most English guides to Etsy bank verification are written for US sellers. This guide covers the setup for sellers in Germany, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Peru, using only what Etsy's own help pages state.

Which payout route applies to your country

Etsy Payments is the only way to get paid on Etsy, and your shop must be located in a country where Etsy Payments is available. There are two routes:

  • Bank account directly: Germany, Spain and Mexico. Funds go from your Etsy Payment account to your own bank account.

  • Payoneer Payment Account: Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru (and several other countries such as Ukraine, Kazakhstan and India). Sellers in these countries cannot connect a bank account directly; Etsy pays into Payoneer, and you withdraw from Payoneer to your local bank.

If your country is not on Etsy's list of eligible countries, you cannot open a new shop at this time. For example, Colombia is not listed.

What to have ready before you enroll

Etsy verifies your identity when you start using Etsy Payments. As an individual seller, prepare:

  • Your legal name, date of birth and home address, exactly as on your ID.

  • A government-issued ID: a driver's license, a government photo ID or a passport. The copy must show your full name, date of birth and expiration date, and the name must be in Latin characters and match what you entered in your shop.

  • Your tax number, where your country requires it.

  • A debit or credit card for billing your Etsy fees, which is required for most shops.

Selling as a business adds the entity name, legal business address, business identification number and any owners holding 25% or more. Many accepted business documents must be less than 3 months old.

EU sellers (Germany, Spain): under the EU reporting rules known as DAC7, Etsy reports sellers with 30 or more sales, or 2,000 EUR or more, in a year to the tax authorities: name, address, date of birth, the bank account your funds go to, your tax ID and your VAT number if you have one. Add your tax ID under Shop Manager > Finances > Legal and tax information; if you have a VAT ID, Etsy says it should be your primary taxpayer ID.

Mexico: add a valid RFC ID to your Etsy account. Etsy withholds income tax (ISR) and VAT (IVA) from each sale and remits it to the SAT, and the rate is much higher without a valid RFC (see our guide to selling on Etsy from Mexico and Latin America).

Enter your bank details in the right format

Go to Shop Manager > Finances > Payment settings (for a new shop, this is part of opening the shop). Etsy's bank-format table lists these fields:

  • Germany: bank name, full name on the account, IBAN (22 characters) and SWIFT BIC (8 or 11 characters).

  • Spain: bank name, full name on the account, IBAN (24 characters) and SWIFT BIC (8 or 11 characters).

  • Mexico: bank name, full name on the account, account type (checking or savings) and the CLABE, an 18-digit number made of a 3-digit bank code, a 3-digit branch code, an 11-digit account number and 1 control digit.

Copy the IBAN or CLABE from your online banking rather than typing it from memory; one wrong digit sends the test deposit nowhere.

Verify the bank account with the test deposit

Outside the US, Etsy verifies your bank account in Shop Manager after your first sale. When your bank account and your shop use the same currency:

  1. Start verification in Payment settings.

  2. Watch your bank statement for a small deposit from Etsy, Adyen, Envoy or Worldpay, which usually arrives in 2–3 business days.

  3. Return to Payment settings and choose Verify account, then enter the exact amount from your statement.

You usually have 30 days to begin verification and 60 days to complete it. If you miss the 60-day deadline, Etsy suspends your shop, so do this as soon as the first order comes in.

If your bank account is in a different currency than your shop's payment account, or the test deposit never arrives, Etsy lets you upload a bank document instead and reviews it in approximately 5–7 business days. If the deposit is missing, resend it from Bank details first.

The Payoneer route (Argentina, Chile, Peru)

Sellers in Payoneer countries enroll from Shop Manager > Finances > Payment settings > Enroll now and then sign in to an existing Payoneer Payment Account or create one. A new Payoneer account asks for a government-issued ID, a selfie and proof of address.

  • Etsy deposits to Payoneer in US dollars only, every Monday, and you cannot choose another day.

  • After you request a withdrawal in Payoneer, the money typically reaches your local bank in 2–5 business days.

  • Payoneer may apply its own withdrawal minimums and fees.

  • "Looks like some details don't match" usually means your Payoneer account has a bank account in a different country from your Etsy Payments country. Link a bank account from the same country as your shop.

  • If Enroll now does nothing, turn off ad or pop-up blockers and try again.

  • Payoneer may ask you to verify your identity again later; complete it within 30 days of the request to avoid interruptions to your shop.

Choose a deposit schedule that avoids fees

Etsy deposits weekly, every Monday, by default. You can switch to daily, weekly, biweekly or monthly in Payment settings. A daily deposit only goes out once your balance reaches the minimum for your bank currency: 20 EUR for euro accounts and 2,000 MXN for Mexican peso accounts.

Mexico: a deposit below 2,000 MXN carries a 40 MXN deposit fee. If your balance often stays below 2,000 MXN, a weekly or monthly schedule keeps that fee from eating small payouts.

Standard deposits can take 1–5 business days to appear in your bank account.

Changing your bank account later

  • Moving to an entirely different account holds your funds for 5 business days before they can be deposited; verifying an account that is already on file does not trigger this delay.

  • Outside the eurozone you cannot switch to a bank account in another country.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a bank account from another country?

Payoneer requires a bank account from the same country as your Etsy shop, and outside the eurozone you cannot change your Etsy deposit account to a bank in another country. Use a bank account in your shop's country.

Why didn't I receive the test deposit?

It usually arrives within 2–3 business days and may come from Etsy, Adyen, Envoy or Worldpay. If it doesn't arrive, resend it from Bank details; if that fails, upload a bank statement instead.

Do I need a business to sell on Etsy outside the US?

No. You can enroll as an individual with your legal name, date of birth, address and ID. Selling as a business requires business registration details and documents. Tax obligations depend on your country — check with a local accountant.
